Can you use kettle after it tripped your safety switch ?

One question we have been asked lately is
“Can you use a kettle after it tripped my safety switch”.

If your kettle has tripped your safety switch then it means its possibly on the way out to the bin. Assuming you have not cleaned it with water or even worse submerge your kettle in water, there’s a possible problem with the element.

If after resetting your safety switch and find you can reuse your kettle, the problem has temporally cleared itself. You will find your kettle giving you tripping problems soon after so for safety it will be sensible to dispose of your kettle responsibly and by a new one.

Today’s modern kettles are not designed to have major element replacements, due to the low cost of buying a new kettle and safety benefits.

If you have viewed the kettle cord for damage and main terminal block for cracks that may allow water entry, you can assume the element has failed. Unless your kettle is a 1950’s unit were you can replace the element quit easily you will have no chance in replacing the modern version of today’s units.

Over time the heating element in your kettle may split or fine hair line cracks will appear that allow water to enter the inner sheathing of the element. This then is recognized by the safety switch as a fault and then disconnects the power.

With the cost of a new kettle at affordable prices it make’s sense to upgrade and also providing an opportunity to enjoy a clean new model that will provide a fresh taste.
